Handicap & Affiliation System Update – GolfRSA

Handicap & Affiliation System Update – GolfRSA

Dear Residents & Members

Management would like to share the following handicap and affiliation system update received from GolfRSA.

Please see the status summary below covering developments over the past few days. Should anything be unclear or if you require further detail, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Launch Overview

The system launch was originally planned for Thursday, 5 February. However, due to delays in the release of the GolfRSA mobile applications, the launch was postponed. As the rollout was largely dependent on the apps (given the high volume of app users), GolfRSA elected to wait for approval from the respective app stores. Unfortunately, app releases are subject to Apple and Google’s independent vetting processes, which are outside of GolfRSA’s and the developers’ direct control.

With no update received by Friday, a website-only launch was implemented, allowing golfers to register and submit scores via the web platform.

App Release Updates

  • The Apple iOS app was released at approximately 14:00 on Friday afternoon.
  • The HNA and DotGolf teams worked throughout the weekend to support players and clubs and to identify and resolve initial issues. The following were addressed by Saturday night:
    • Course Handicap calculation issue: A new iOS version resolving this issue has been approved by Apple.
    • Active members incorrectly marked as resigned: All affected members have been reinstated.
    • Member search by name (Web and App): Searches are no longer limited to a player’s home club and no longer require a member number when searching outside the club.

Android App Update

On Monday, 9 February, GolfRSA was advised that the Android app had been rejected earlier that morning due to an alleged image copyright issue. This appears to be unfounded, as the image is owned by DotGolf and has been used in previous app launches. The app has since been resubmitted, and a faster verification process is anticipated.

Other Issues Resolved

  • Duplicate golfer profiles created during the transition.
  • iOS app not appearing in certain foreign app stores, including the USA and parts of Europe.

Current Known Issues

  • Some foreign scores not appearing on player profiles (fix scheduled for deployment on Monday night).
  • Duplicate score entries caused by players not seeing score history; a validation check will be implemented overnight to prevent this.
  • Search display and wording improvements to be included in the next app version.
  • Minor display adjustment required on the app login page.
  • Profile pictures not loading correctly in the app.

Additional Information

  • As of 09:00 on Monday, 9 February, approximately 38,000 golfers had successfully activated their profiles.
  • Clubs and players experiencing any issues are encouraged to contact GolfRSA directly at info@handicaps.co.za or on 0860 691 691.

Kind Regards,
WCC Management
